FLUOROCARBON-IMPREGNATING-AGENTS FOR WATER, OIL AND SOIL REPELLENT

Under the trade name ®RUCOTEC, RUDOLF HELLAS offers stain-repellent fluorocarbon-based impregnations for the oil, soil and water-repellent finishing of stone surfaces. The products RUCOTEC®-B Fxx * are ecological because bring to us the innovation of technology C6 for the fluorocarbon compounds with result the absence of perfluorooctanate sulfonic acid (PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). All natural stones, but also unglazed artificial stones or fine stoneware are more or less porous. Absorbent surfaces, however, take up liquids that carry over soil and stain-forming substances, such as coffee, tea, wine, oil, fat, etc. into the coverage. The liquids cause permanent discolouration and the otherwise clean surface looks unsightly.

Mode of action of fluorocarbon polymers: FC polymers build up from a polymer backbone and perfluorinated side chains which are responsible for primary effects, such as water, oil and soil repellency. The fluorocarbon polymer is an “intelligent“polymer, because the side chains can orientate themselves. Due to this important orientation, the FC-polymers form an invisible protective film on natural or artificial stones during application. The surface energy on the substrate decreases in the course of this process. If the fluorocarbon is applied from a solvent, the protective film will be built up immediately. That is why these products are usually easier to apply and do not require thermal after treatment. However, if the FC-polymer is applied in the form of an aqueous emulsion, the fluorocarbon side chain’s orientation is initially random.

RUCOTEC®-B Fxx products are diluted 1:4 to 1:9 with solvents. Apply a uniform and rich coat of the dilution to the absorbent surface with a brush, roller or cleaning mop.
